What have we learned? #Researchandlearn

Ideating

Need: With research forthcoming on a phone based parenting program delivered in a country context where research has been scant; there is a need for researchers and practitioners to understand the state of the current literature: what already exists and what is missing. All too often, this literature remains locked away in journals. This is an opportunity to synthesize and make the research story accessible.

Concept: We've learned a lot about parenting programs worldwide, with an increasing urgency to generate evidence in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). With the incorporation of early childhood development (ECD) into the Sustainable Development Goals, and the adoption of the World Health Organization's (WHO) 2018 Nurturing Care Framework by more and more countries, the global commitment is clear. How do we know where to go next though? How do we know what stories urgently need to be told? It starts by understanding what we've already learned. This is the story of what we know. And what's still missing.

Learning Goals

  1. Viewers will understand the advances in research made on parenting programs worldwide

  2. Viewers will understand the research gaps in parenting program service delivery

Learning Theories

Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning

Coherence Principle

"humans learn best when extraneous, distracting material is not included."

Segmenting Principle

"humans learn best when information is presented in segments, rather than one long continuous stream."

Pre-Training Principle

"humans learn more efficiently if they already know some of the basics."
